A stunning black-on-black pot by famed San Idelfonso potter Lupita Martinez. As the photos show, this pot is in excellent condition. The sheen of the finish is as good as it gets. The sgraffito feather motif is superb.
Pot measures 3 1/2 inches tall with a diameter of 4 inches.
Note: If you search the internet, you will find a lot of information the same for Lupita and Lucy Martinez, thus making it easy to confuse one from the other. Both were among the earliest of black-on-black San Ildefonso potters active during the 1930s – 1980s. Lupita was the niece of Maria and Julian Matinez while Lucy was actually a neighbor of Maria and Julian Martinez. Lupita lived from 1918 until 2006. Lucy was born in 1910; however, I could not find the date of her passing. Finally, research will show Lupita's pottery sells for higher prices, not because Lucy wasn't good, but because Lupita was VERY GOOD. As stated above, the sheen on her pottery is second to none.
So here's your chance to own on of Lupita's wonderful vases at a price you won't find elsewhere!
