This is truly a great vase by one of the best ever - Tom Polacca. Look closely at the photos noting the exertly incised Mud Dancer by the creator of incised pottery himself. This vase is a great example of why Tom Polacca can be found in the Heard Museum.
Pot stands 7 1/4 inches tall with a 5 1/2 inch diameter at the widest point.
During his lifetime, the innovator Thomas Polacca developed a style of pottery very different from that of his famous grandmother (Nampeyo - the matriarch of Hopi pottery) and mother (Fannie Nampeyo). Unlike his predecessors, Tom branched out introducing what has often been referred to as 'deeply carved' polychrome. Throughout his life, Tom worked hard developing the process that made him famous - one source even referring to Tom as the patriarch of Hopi Pottery.
During his lifetime, Tom won many awards and was often mentioned in published works, not to mention examples of his work being on display in the Heard Museum Permanent collection.
Museum quality vase would certainly be a wonderful addition to ANY collection.
